How Money can Buy Happiness

We often read in religious and self help books that money can't find happiness - that Money and Happiness can't go together. Money often has a negative meaning and sometimes even associated to bad things.

But I believe that this shouldn't always be the case. Money is just bad when use for selfish reasons. But when we start spending it not the way we usually spend it, we can realize its worth.

Let me ask you some questions:

Why are you working hard to earn money?
Why are you sacrificing your time and effort to make money?
What drives you to invest so you can enjoy higher returns?

I have some experiment for you to work on. Try doing the two scenarios below, measure the happiness you feel after you do each of the scenario, and compare the level of happiness.

When you receive your 13th month pay this November, spare some money for this experiment. Note: You must spend the same amount of money for each scenario. How much? You decide.

Scenario 1: Spend this to treat yourself.

Here are some of my suggestions:
Go to Salon for a makeover.
Relax and go to a spa.
Buy a new blouse, pants or dress.
Buy the shoes you've ever wanted.
Treat yourself in a concert of your favorite band/artist
Buy a gadget

Scenario 2: Spend this to treat others.

Here are some of my suggestions:
Treat your parents in a date, or in an out of town vacation.
Donate to some charitable institutions
Feed some beggar in streets. Treat them in a fastfood or give them healthy food.
Visit an orphanage or home for the aged. Prepare some food for the people there.
Buy your siblings the blouse or shoes she/he ever wanted but she/he couldn't buy because of lack of money

Once you've done with this experiment, please share your experiences/feelings/results in the comments section below.

I will also try this and I will share the results via post once I'm done. I'm very excited to do this.

Live a happy life,
Maya
